Welcome to my website for Cherise for Mt Diablo School Board! My priority is to ensure that our schools best serve the educational needs of ALL our students.
My husband and I have lived in Walnut Creek since 2007. Our daughters now attend 6th and 9th grades at MDUSD schools. I earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Washington, where I specialized in education policy and non-profit management. Previously I was the President and a Founder of the new MDUSD Education Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising funds to support excellent schools for ALL students in MDUSD, regardless of their zip code. I also served on the Families and Children’s Trust Board of Contra Costa County.
Now as your elected MDUSD board member, I will use my skills, experience, and enthusiasm to fulfill our country’s promise of quality public schools for all.
I've stepped down from my leadership roles in both the Foundation and the County Board, to ensure clarity that there are no conflicts of interest taking place.
Here's a bit about what led me down the path to elected office:
As a community activist, I've experienced firsthand how working together produces REAL results to improve our schools and communities.
- I led and managed a reading program for struggling students in 10 MDUSD schools that showed significant, measurable results for 300 students per year.
- Serving as PFC President, I launched innovative technology that streamlined communication and increased parent involvement.
- Working with a coalition of students, parents, and employees, we sent drafts and spoke up at two school district board meetings, resulting in the MDUSD School Board passing a Safe Haven Resolution.
- I initiated Safe Routes to School by writing a change.org petition to gain community awareness and to advocate for pedestrian safety. Construction is now complete on two new flashing pedestrian beacons, 3 new crosswalks, a new bike lane, digital speed signs, and sidewalk bulbouts that show down cars and create safer and shorter crossings for pedestrians.
