Time to Celebrate - Let's Walk n Roll!

Be sure to walk or bike to school on Wednesday October 4th, National Walk to School Day!

Kids walking or biking to Walnut Acres Elementary or Foothill Middle School will be greeted by parents, City and school officials, and representatives from StreetSmarts, Diablo Region. StreetSmarts will be fitting kids who need them with bicycle helmets, and teaming up with the City and school officials to hand out prizes.  There will also be 2 bicycle "blenders", using pedal power to make lemonade smoothies to hand out to all who walk by.

(Valle Verde Elementary is also participating, with prizes for those who walk or bike that day)

After the school bells ring, adults please join us in front of Foothill Middle School for an 8:20 a.m. celebration of a job well done. I will emcee, and Mayor Rich Carlston, Council members Loella Haskew, Cindy Silva and Kevin Wilk will be present, as will Police Chief Tom Chaplin, Traffic Engineers Rafat Raie and Alex Wong, and City Engineer Steve Waymire.  Streetsmarts will be presenting a check to Foothill Middle School as well.

The “Safe Routes to School” project resulted in multiple improvements on Wiget and Cedro, including two new flashing pedestrian beacons, three new crosswalks, a new bike lane on Cedro, digital speed signs, and sidewalk bulbouts that slow down cars and create safer and shorter crossings for pedestrians.   Digital speed signs and 20mi signs were installed citywide in school zones.
